This post is all about the 18 Best Romcom Books You Have to Read in 2023!

I’m so excited to share some of my favorite romcom books. I admit that romcom books were something I never started reading until last year when my book club picked a romcom for our book of the month pick!

My first romcom was The Unhoneymooners, and it hooked me into the genre! Now, I’m a devout fan of romcom reads. Why? They are funny, light, and keep me turning the pages.

However, there are a lot of romcom books out there, so for readers, it can get overwhelming. Let’s face it just because a book is on the ‘BookTok’ table doesn’t mean it’s the best read. It’s why I put together a list of the 18 best romcom books you have to read in 2023 (according to me).

1. The Unhoneymooners

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is a charming and witty story of Olive Torres and Ethan Thomas. Olive goes on her sister’s honeymoon after food poisoning leaves her and the entire wedding party too sick to go. But that catch is Ethan is going too, and the two don’t exactly get along. They hate each other, but on the honeymoon, they must act like they just got married. As the week goes on, the two start to find that their hate may be a front for something more simmering between them. But when they return to reality, will these two find themselves having just got caught up in the moment, or did something more form between them?

2. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne centers around Lucy Hutton and Joshua Templeman. They are co-workers who are constantly at odds trying to one-up the other one. But beneath their hostile work relationship may be something deeper. It’s time they find out when a work project forces them to work alongside each other. But with feelings starting to unravel, will these two secretly be plotting against the other to win in the end…or will they find out that something deeper is worth fighting for?

3. Beach Read by Emily Henry

Beach Read by Emily Henry is one of my favorite Emily Henry books. January Andrews is a writer facing writer’s block after the death of her father. She retreats to a beach house where her neighbor ends up being fellow fiction writer Augustus Everett. The two start to talk and decide to switch genres; each one will write the others book. The process brings them closer and allows them on a journey of discovery. But will these two discover their hearts may lead them on their true journey.

4. The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory is a fun read! It centers around Alexa Monroe and Drew Nichols, who meet when an elevator breaks. They end up sharing a kiss which leads to a wedding invite. The next thing they know, they two are trying to make a long-distance relationship work. But judgments of family and friends and the distance may be too much for a new couple. Will these two be able to navigate through it, or has their relationship been doomed from the start?

5. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman is a charming story I didn’t see coming. The story centers around Nina Hill. She works at a bookshop and has a quiet life until she learns that she has a large family she never knew about. Then she meets Tom, a single father coaching a rival quiz team. But Nina has a lot of anxiety to figure out and may not be ready for all these changes in her once quiet life. Will she let that determine her future and her happiness?

6. Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn

Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn was my first book by this author and not my last. Meg Mackworth has a unique job in NYC. She’s a lettering artist. She also helps design things for weddings. When Reid Sutherland hires her to work on his wedding, Meg and Reid start to form a relationship. But Meg knows his relationship is doomed and puts a secret word in the wedding invites, but Reid uncovers it and learns that Meg has been putting secret words for years in the city to predict the end of other’s relationships. Will these two be able to overcome Meg’s deceit?

7. Well Met by Jen DeLuca

Emily knew when she went to Willow Creek, Maryland, to help her sister after she got in an accident that there would be things she’d have to do. But getting sucked into the local Renaissance fair to help out was not one of them. Simon’s family has done it for years. It’s his legacy, and Emily’s lighthearted approach to the festival is frustrating for Simon. But the two start to form a bond, and there’s no denying their attraction. Will this be just another summer fling, or will these two find more in common past the sunshine-filled months?

8. The Switch by Beth O’Leary

The Switch by Beth O’Leary is a hilarious novel about a grandmother (Eileen) and granddaughter (Leena) who switch places. Eileen heads to London, while Leena wants to try life in the quiet Hamleigh. Eileen wants to find love in the city, while Leena is looking forward to gardening and other events in the rural town. Each learns about each other while also learning about themselves. Will the two find happiness? Find out when you read this story.

9. Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Red, White, & Royal Blue was my first book by Casey McQuiston and not my last. The romance novel tells the story of the First Son of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz, and the Prince of Wales, Henry. They don’t exactly like each other but have to fake it to avoid yet a scandal. However, the two soon find something deeper as they navigate their way through obstacles. And the diverse cast kept me turning the pages!

10. The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams

The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams had me turn the pages as fast as possible. It is the story of professional baseball player Gavin Scott and his wife, Thea. Gavin is devastated when Thea asks for a divorce, and he turns to his friends for help. Their all avid romance readers and start to use the stories to improve their real-life relationships. Through the book club, Gavin begins to see the problems he caused in his marriage and tries his hardest to win Thea back. Will romance books help Gavin reclaim a love before it’s lost forever?

11. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion is a romantic story that follows Don Tillman, who has never found love due to his social awkwardness. He puts together a questionnaire called ‘The Wife Project,’ but then he runs into Rosie. She is definitely not the person he pictured for his future wife. But the two start getting closer, and Rosie enlists Don’s help in finding her biological father. Don’s unique perspective and struggles with Asperger’s syndrome provide an insightful look into a topic that not many romcom books tackle.

12. Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes was a Jenna book club pick. I got this book from Ballantine and really enjoyed it. The story follows Evvie Drake, a young widow who is struggling to move on from the death of her husband. She decides to rent her house out to a former MLB player, Dean Tenney. The two start to form a friendship that leads to more. This was a story I had to keep reading!

13. The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang is a steamy romance novel that follows Stella Lane, a successful econometrician who struggles with social interactions due to her autism. Feeling pressure from her family to settle down, she hires a male escort, Michael Phan, to teach her about dating. The two start to fall in love, but with the pressure of reality sinking in, will the two be able to last?

14. The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

The Happy Ever After Playlist was my first book by Abby Jimenez and not my last! The story follows Sloan Monroe. After two years, she is still grieving the loss of her fiancé. One day, she receives a voicemail from a stranger named Jason, who found her fiancé’s dog on the side of the road. Soon Sloan and Jason start to connect deeper than her lost dog and start to form a real connection, but grief is hard to overcome. Will these two be able to navigate this new romance?

15. The Last Letter from Your Lover by Jojo Moyes

The Last Letter from Your Lover is a great story. I’ve read it three times. It tells the story of two women, separated by decades but connected by a love affair that transcends time. In the 1960s, journalist Jennifer Stirling falls in love with a married man named Anthony O’Hare. Their relationship ends abruptly after a tragic accident. Decades later, journalist Ellie Haworth discovers a series of passionate love letters between Jennifer and Anthony and becomes obsessed with uncovering the mystery of their story. How will these two stories weave together? Find out when you read this story!

16. Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating is another great book from Christina Lauren! The story follows the unlikely friendship and budding romance between Hazel Bradford and Josh Im. Hazel is an outgoing woman who has never had much luck in the love department, while Josh is a practical man who recently broke up with his long-term girlfriend. The two start to go on disastrous dates but soon find their stride, and the unlikely duo may just find love.

17. The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

The Friend Zon by Abby Jimenez follows Kristen Petersen. She’s a successful businesswoman who has always put her career first, but her plans are thrown into disarray when she falls for Josh Copeland—the very guy who is engaged to her best friend. There is great consequences to their attraction, so will these two act on their feelings and find true love, or will they decide their better off apart?

18. Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner

Something to Talk About by Meryl Wilsner tells the story of the relationship between a Hollywood showrunner, Jo Jones, and her assistant, Emma Kaplan. A tabloid reports the two are dating, forcing them to decide what’s between them. Jo and Emma bring to light issues of power dynamics, gender inequality, and the importance of authentic representation. A book I couldn’t put down.
