Skin of the Sea by Natasha Brown feature is here! I must say, who doesn’t love a book filled with magical mermaids? When I first saw this book, the cover grabbed my attention. It is GORGEOUS and something different for the YA fantasy market. You can get your copy on Amazon if you haven’t already! 🙂
The protagonist Simi is a servant to the gods known as Mami Wata—aka a mermaid. She swims the waters and collects the souls of those who lose their lives in the waters, blessing them on their way back home.
However, everything changes for Simi when she decides to save a boy’s life instead of guiding his spirit back home. Now, Simi must face the consequences of her actions she cannot take back. To do that, Simi must face the Supreme Creator if she stands any chance at saving her fellow mermaids. But first, she must decide if the boy she rescued is as innocent as she thought.
One thing is for sure she cannot fail in making it to the Supreme Creator. If she does, every Mami Wata will be put in jeopardy, and everything Simi knows will be gone.
I’ve been on the hunt for a YA fantasy book that is unlike any others out there. I am so excited to see this one. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the cover. It captures the essence and magic of this book. The next thing that caught me was the description on the back cover. Simi is such an original character that I could hardly wait to dive into this story. I’m halfway through, so stay tuned for my full review. But I will say so far; I will recommend this book to my bookish friends! How about you have you read Skin of the Sea by Natasha Brown yet?
