Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally Review is here.
This novel centers around Alex Rouvelis and Louise ‘Lulu’ Wells. It takes us on a journey of their school field trips throughout high school every year from freshman to senior year. May 7th changes the course of the relationship each and every year. In between, we get to see how their relationship progressed during the school year.
First, we have freshman year where they go to visit the Cumberland Science Museum. It is then we get to see the relationship between Alex and Lulu develop. Lulu’s best friend is Max, and together they are navigating high school. Lulu wants a boyfriend, so does Max, but he finds it hard to find anyone who’s outwardly gay in his school. Meanwhile, we get to see Lulu has a crush on Alex. At the end of the field trip, will a relationship bloom?
Second, we move onto sophomore year, which takes us to Six Flags. We get to find out if Alex and Lulu dated through freshman and into sophomore year. It’s during this trip that everything changes. Her cousin Grace is now one of her best friends again, while Max has another news of his own. The time ends with everyone putting everything on the line, including Alex. But is it something Lulu is ready to hear? Will his words hurt or help the course of their relationship?
Third, we transition into junior year and the class trip to NYC. The year brought many hardships, but it also brought a lot of surprises between Alex and Lulu. Hearts change but will their relationship? With dates and new friends, maybe things are more complicated than they know. Or is it?
Finally, we conclude the book with senior year and a school trip to London, England. This is where it all gets laid out the good, the bad, who’s going to what school. The question finally gets answered; do Alex and Lulu decide to pursue a relationship?
I have to say once you get past the first part 1 of the novel, it’s perfect. I loved how we get to be present with these characters on their class trips and then jump back to major events that happened during the school year. At first, I didn’t understand it at all. I was confused and couldn’t really get into the story. But the dialogue and stronghold on the characters made me keep reading, and I’m so glad I did. I enjoyed this novel. The dialogue and how author Miranda Kenneally truly knew her characters and what she wanted to convey was great.
I definitely do recommend reading this novel. It is a great addition to the YA novels on the shelves because the characters are so vibrant. My favorite character was probably Max. I loved his character and banter with Lulu. My second favorite character was Lulu because she had a great personality. Have you read this novel?
