28 Summers

28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand Review is here. Mallory Blessing is on her deathbed when she tells her son, Link, to go in her drawer and call the number listed. It turns out to be Jake McCloud, the husband of Ursula de Gournsey. She’s the frontrunner to win the presidential election.

28 Summers
This novel tells unconventional love story of Mallory and Jake.

Rewind twenty-eight years prior, and we meet Mallory in her twenties living in NYC with her best friend, Leland. Mallory is unhappy, but her luck seems to be changing when she gets a call her Aunt left her a cottage on Nantucket Island along with a nest egg. Mallory is ecstatic and moves there, loving her life on the island. Her older brother Copper decides to come for a bachelor weekend during Labor Day with his best friend Fray and big brother in his fraternity, Jake McCloud.

Fate steps in, striking Mallory and Jake with instant chemistry neither can deny. Untimely events leave the two alone for a memorable weekend that neither will ever forget and one that will change their life forever. Mallory and Jake agree to meet the same time, next year, vowing not to miss. Their relationship sustains during marriages to other people, children, and a political atmosphere.

Does true love always find its way back even when the odds are against it? It’s a story you won’t soon forget and will change your heart in ways you didn’t expect. One thing is for sure, Mallory and Jake’s love always finds a way back to one another even during the final breath of life.

Did you have a favorite character?

This story will sweep you up and won’t put you down until the find page is read. This was my first novel by Elin Hilderbrand, and it was everything I didn’t know I needed. One thing is definitely for sure I want to go to Nantucket Island like yesterday. The detail of the island and the places there capture you in every way. You can even smell the salty ocean breeze and feel the fresh air against your skin.

The storyline (because I am a romantic reader) was gut-wrenching because I so badly wanted Jake to step up. I wanted the affair to end and them to live happily ever after. But it’s the magic they hold in that one weekend that drives the book and essentially their story. The events in between sweep you up into their lives and make you question your own.

I found myself with the question: would you want one weekend a year with your soulmate or an unhappy marriage?

I think Mallory and Jake were both strong characters and written beautifully. Even if you don’t agree with their faults, you’ll see why they do what they did. I love how the beginning of each summer, we get an overview of what has been going on and what people are talking about during that time.

If you don’t have this novel, I recommend picking it up. It’s a fun, unique, romantic read that is unlike any other book I’ve read!
