YA fiction is a genre I adore. I love the wholesome stories that take me back to high school. There is something about YA characters that I always find endearing.
I was so excited when Simon and Schuster sent me a copy of The Love Match. The cover immediately drew me in, and when I read the back cover, I was so intrigued I couldn’t wait to dive into the story.
The Love Match ended up being my January book club pick for 2023. I am so glad it was too. This story was in one word: charming.
Carly-Rae’s favorite things about The Love Match by Priyanka Taslim
Characters: Zahra Khan
Zahra is a gem for the YA genre! She’s a strong character that really made this book come to life for me. Her relationships in this book evolved, and I really enjoyed seeing her grow from the beginning to the end of the novel. Harun and Nayim both were great side characters for Zahra and kept me entertained!
Cover: The colors!
The cover of The Love Match is great. The use of colors to really accentuate the culture this book brings to the forefront is maybe one of my favorites. I also adore a cover with characters on it, and this book definitely delivered!

Carly-Rae’s thoughts on The Love Match by Priyanka Taslim
The whole Pride & Prejudice meets To All the Boys really hooked me. As many readers know, I’m a huge fan of those books, and I loved how this book brought both of those premises together while also shedding light on culture.
Zahra Khan is (for all purposes of this story) Bangladeshi royalty. But the status of the princess doesn’t make the bills that need paying go away. Zahra plans though to work hard and earn money for courses, but Amma thinks the best option for Zahra is to find a good match.
This is where the character of Harun comes in. He is who Amma has chosen to be her match, but both soon realize they aren’t a great match. Zahra knows her match may just be Nayim. A boy who works at the tea shop. Together, Zahra comes up with a plan with Harun to fake their relationship while she really pursues one with Nayim. Sound tricky? It definitely is. The story is amusing and a quick read for me.
I highly recommend checking this one out!
