I love fantasy, and combining that with romance? Yes, please! Romantasy books combine the best of two genres, and I can’t get enough of this genre. One of my first experiences with romantasy books was with Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, and let me tell you…spicy! I went on to binge romantasy books and put together a list of the 15+ Best Romantasy Books to read in 2026.
One of my favorite craft elements in romantasy books is the combination of worldbuilding with romance. For me, it puts the characters and the world at the forefront, making the novels page-turners! Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros centers around twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail. She gets ordered by her mother to join the cadets who are competing to become the next dragon riders. However, Violet is tiny, and becoming a dragon rider wasn’t at the top of her list. Worse, it doesn’t help that her mother is the commanding general, and everyone wants her gone. Lovers, friends, enemies, and a deadly war? Fourth Wing will keep you on your toes with both romance and the fantasy world.
2. One Dark Window – Rachel Gillig
One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig centers around Elspeth Spindle who resides in a kingdowm wrapped under shadows. However, she decides to join a quest to free the kingdom alongside a highwayman. However, the stakes get ramped up when Elspeth discovers this highwayman is none other than the King’s nephew, Captain of the Destriers. Worse? He’s been charged with high treason. The two must work together to collect twelve Providence Cards before it’s too late. With romance and secrets, will Elspeth survive the quest before it’s too late.
3. From Blood and Ash – Jennifer L. Armentrout
From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout follows the character of the “Maiden” Poppy. She has been committed to a life os solidarity. However, as she prepares for the Ascension, her world (and heart) open when she meets her new guard Hawke. He stirs something in her the he shouldn’t. Will Poppy sacrifice the life laid out for her? A fast-pace romantasy book you won’t be able to put down!
4. Quicksilver – Callie Hart
Quicksilver by Callie Hart centers around Saeris Fane who resides in the Undying Queen’s reservoirs. However, when Saeris faces Death, she gets transported to the world of Fae. Not only is the world divergent from her own, but she becomes bound to the Kingfisher himself. With her powers valuable in the world of the Fae Saeris has to find a way to make it out alive while she can. The problem is the Ajun Gate are guarded by the Kingfisher and he doesn’t plan to let her leave.
5. The Cruel Prince – Holly Black
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black centers around Jude, a mortal caught in the realm of faeries. Her sisters were stolen from her when their parents died and are now in the High Courts of Faeries. To get to them, Jude must secure a place in court, but that involves facing Prince Cardan . Jude despises him, but is there more to their story? The book is fast-pace and there’s surprises sprinkled throughout.
6. A Court of Mist and Fury – Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas is the second book in the bestselling series. The novel centers around Feyre who now has the powers of the High Fae. She finds her marriage to Tamlin approaching, but can’t forget what she bargained with Rhysand. A thrilling sequel full of spice, worldbuilding, and adventure.
7. Iron Flame – Rebecca Yarros
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros is the rivetting sequel to Fourth Wing. The novel picks back up on Violet Sorrengail’s journey. She survived the first round of the dragon riders, but now there’s another test she must complete. With more secrets, more spice, and more twists, you don’t want to miss this sequel!
8. Once Upon a Broken Heart – Stephanie Garber
Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber follows Evangeline Fox. She is convinced that there is such a thing as a happily-ever-after. However, that allure shatters when the love of her life announces his plans to marry another. Desperate, Evangeline makes a bargain with the Prince of Hearts to kiss him three times at his choosing. But bargaining with any immortal is dangerous and Evangeline may not be able to claim the happily-ever-after she planned.
9. Dragon Cursed by Elise Kova
Dragon Cursed by Elise Kova centers around Isola. She resides in the last human city: Vinguard where above is the biggest threat. The dragons. If a dragon curses you, slowly, you transform into a dragon and destroy everyone you love. If you love books filled with dragons and curses, I’d recommend this novel.
10. Fallen Gods by Rachel Van Dyke
Fallen Gods by Rachel Van Dyken centers around Liv Olson who is a museum curator in New York. However, when her brother goes missing in Norway, Liv takes a job opportunity there to fund him. If you’re a fan of Norse mythology, I definitely recommend this novel.
11. Rites of the Starling by Devney Perry
Rites of the Starling by Devney Perry is the sequel to Shield of Sparrows. A princess makes a journey across a cursed kingdom and it’s filled with twists, turns, and of course, spice! I had to include this one in my 15+ Best Romantasy Books to read in 2026 because I am a fan of Shield of Sparrows!
12. Spark the Flames by Ivy Asher
Spark The Flames by Ivy Asher follows Ever Tenebrae. She gets captured by Aeson Noctis, her enemy. However, he makes her heart race and when he takes her back to the city she wants to forget, she must find a way to escape. Filled with romance and adventure, don’t miss this romantasy book to read.
13. The Wrath Gods Reap by Abigail Owen
The Wrath Gods Reap by Abigail Owen is the third boook in the triology by Owen. It features a romance with Hades himself and contains other Greek mythology elements that is a must-read for anyone who loves Greek mythology. The world of gods is unlike any other book I’ve read.
14. Grace and Glory by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Grace and Glory by Jennifer L. Armentrout centers around Trinity Marrow. Trinity loses not just a battle but her Protector. She decides to bring back Lucifer who unleashes hell on Earth to fight Harbinger. But is it enough? Have you read Grace and Glory yet?
15. A Crown of Blood and Magick by Amy de la Force
A Crown of Blood and Magick by Amy de la Force centers around Cahra. This is a spicy follow-up in the Fated for Hael series. In this novel, Cahra must learn to master her own dark magick if she wants to save Hael’s immoratl life.
16. Hunted by Elayna R. Gallea
Hunted by Elayna R. Gallea is the second book in The Giving Chronicle Series. Wren is still on the run from the King and Gabriel Moreau (The Hunter) has now joined her side. The two must travel across the kingdom to escape a deadly wrath before it’s too late.
17. A Den of Howls & Discontent by Alex Frost
Den of Howls and Discontent by Alex Frost is the fourth book in the Lunaria Realms series. This romantasy book has spice, mates, and adventure. If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers, this may be your new favorite read.
