Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn Book Review is here! When I was younger, I didn’t make reading a priority. I remember always being interested in books (especially The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley Series) and going to the library. Spark Notes helped me “read” books in high school because I had other priorities, like hanging out with friends.

Fast forward a few years, and I now find myself newly married and living 16 hours from my hometown. What did I do to cope with the loneliness and isolation of our new small town? I turned to books. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn was the first adult book I picked up while living in small-town Iowa, and I will always credit it as the book that got me back into reading.

Gone Girl is the story of Nick and Amy told from different points of view.

Their fifth wedding anniversary is supposed to be a day of love and celebration, but Nick discovers his beautiful wife is missing. Nick seems like he is husband of the year. However, suspicion quickly surrounds him by not only the police but also Amy’s doting parents. Nick and Amy both have secrets in their marriage which are revealed through Amy’s diary and Nick’s inner monologue. Nick and his sister stand by his innocence, but the question remains, “where is Amy?”.

What I love most about this book is how quickly it captures you and makes you want to keep reading to find out what happened to Amy. It makes you question if Nick really killed her even when he proclaimed his innocence. I enjoy when thriller authors take you down a road where you think you have it all figured out, only to drop some sort of twist and reveal that makes you question everything. The build-up of the book’s first part is done so well that I truly thought I knew what was going on. I remember turning the page to start Part Two, and my jaw dropped. The movie adaptation starring Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck is perfectly cast and well done. It follows the book wonderfully and brings the characters and the story to life. If you haven’t read Gone Girl yet, what are you waiting for?
