The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black Review is here.
Hazel Evans lives in Fairfold with her parents and brother Ben. It’s no secret Hazel loves to flirt with all the guys at her high school, never once being attached. Meanwhile, Ben is the opposite. The one thing they do have in common is their crush on the horned boy in the glass coffin. He’s one of the
What happens when Hazel shatters the glass? This is what propels the story. Severin, the horned boy, is now released out into Fairfold. He is a long-lost prince of the Folk world who was cast into the coffin by a very powerful figure in the Folk world. Is Severin good or bad? What he brings is bad. Sorrow, a deadly monster who roams the sinister forest, is now unleashed and willing to destroy all of Fairfold to find Severin. Meanwhile, Jack, Ben’s best friend, and Hazel’s crush still has ties to the world of the Folk. Only when Hazel gets Jack to bring her to a gathering does she realize she holds secrets of her own.
Everyone knows not to stay in the woods too long or tempt the Folk into making them a promise. There is always a consequence that is tied to it, whether it be your life, years, or service. Hazel, though, didn’t listen and did make an offer to the Folk. She made a wager to help her brother’s music. But now Ben refuses to play, even breaking his hand to prevent himself. Hazel is left with the pressing thought of her days coming to an end sooner than she knows.
When Hazel releases, she is in possession of a sword the Alderking of the Folk wants. It’s a deadly race Hazel must run to survive. Will she be able to even with the help of Severin, Jack, and Ben? Better yet, is she in possession of the Heartseeker or Heartsworn? You’ll have to read to find out.
Overall, this is another Folk story only Holly Black could write. It’s fun, exciting, and mysterious. The questions keep coming each and every chapter. You have to keep reading to find out the answer. It’s a fairytale mixed with the folk world that I love.
I do recommend reading this book. If you are looking for a folk story, this will fulfill your book craving. Have you read this book? Comment and let me know!
